Girl, who are you ?

It’s true that between the dream dress, the perfect pumps, the ideal jean jacket, and the small last minute miracle of a stylist friend with a Louboutin panther skin clutch bag and an extra set of glazed wooden Vuitton bracelets, all together, it was about as classy as you can get.

Yep, all that just to cover up with the camera, not the most clever thing I’ve ever done.

So there I was in the grandeur of the New York Palace, taking a stroll around and getting pictures of everything I could get my eyes on, when in bathroom number 4, I come across a creature you could only dream up, wearing a dress you could only dream up, with a bright smile of pearly whites just screaming with publicity.  I say hello.

happiness is a little white dress

Men, they’ll never understand.  They could never understand the pure pleasure that comes with the first warmth of summer, the joy of slipping on a light little dress.

Especially if it’s white, and with nice tan underneath.  Le BONHEUR

Chez Nylon

Last week, I went on over to Nylon magazine for an interview.  After a rather surrealist 15 minutes where every door I was about to open had a little sign that said, “No, Nylon isn’t here, go further down!” I finally got to the place where these two lively Shar-Peis welcomed me with open… paws?

I knew right away this whole experience would put a smile on my face.

I like Nylon a lot.  The magazine’s freshness, its freedom, its layout, its energy, and I found all that in the offices.  There is light, color, two dogs, and outits everywhere you look.  The team is young, the paper and internet editors are all interspersed, you can dress however you want, everyone works on these giant wooden desks… So in short, it’s awesome.

And I hadn’t planned on taking any photos, and hadn’t told anyone I’d have my camera.  But that didn’t seem to bother anyone.  Everyone told me to feel at home and take as much time as I wanted.

Even Dani, one of the magazine’s it-girls, who was showing me a good time with her larger-than-life persona said, “Nooooo.  You’re sure you want to take a shot of me right now looking like this?  No makeup? WHAT?  Take off my sunglasses?  Okay, whatever.  Hmmm.  Hold on, I’m just going to grab a jacket really quick because… Look at this one, not bad, look, whad’ya think?  You want a shot of the shoes?  Yeaaah, and hold up, oh look, did you see my bag?!?!  No no no no, not my desk, you’re CRAZY.  It’s such a mess!!!”

And there you go!!!  Here’s why I felt completely at home over at Nylon!

And as I promised to keep you updated : Here are the pictures of the Women of Fashion party ! You can take a look at the dress, and even see a few of my accessories that I really have to talk to you about… Soon !

Ok, enough with socialite mode, I’m back in Paris. Have a great day !

Celebrity Skin

Hello there!

So… I’m entirely too exhausted to tell you everything that went down, but it was tons of fun to be one of the nominees for the 25 Women of Fashion. Olivier Zahm never did succeed in getting me to pose in the bed of the giant (I’ve seriously never seen anything like it) penthouse suite in New York Palace.  I made a lot of new friends who asked me to join them later for their subversive steakhouse after party (certainly to protest sushi).  Alexa made me crack up mocking the love-hate relationship she has with her Chanel bag (fashion, it’s love-hate, it’s got all the emotions in there.  That’s the conclusion I came to at the end of the night with the wonderful Poppy de Villeneuve).  And in the end, I kinda left my camera in some corner.

Fortunately, the MenStyle team was there to take photos!  You will be able to see them soon on their website…  With, as promised, the famous Balmain dress.  Thank you so much Carole!

Big hugs, merci, merci, merci for your adorable comments yesterday and I’ll see you tomorrow!

Reality Check

Since I got to in New York, I’ve been doing everything you’re supposed to. Here, like when I first got here, it was weird to me to go out to breakfast, and now, I love it.  I get manicures every week and I spend hours upon hours on the steps in front of the house.

The NY way of life, it can be happiness itself.  Especially when the weather is beautiful, when a fresh breeze caresses your neck and you grab a frozen fruit juice, the kind you can find on every street corner.  When I have these moments, I can’t help but think that this is truly the most incredible city in the world.

The other day, there I am, back on the steps, computer in my lap, getting some fresh air, working some and doing some people watching.  A beautiful filmesque moment, the kind that happens all the time in NYC.

There I am with a mouthful of frozen apple when I see Little J pass right by.  ”Hi J!” I say to her.

And then suddenly I realize…

Wait…

I don’t know her at all! And besides, that’s not Jenny Humphrey! You’re not living in Gossip Girl! It’s Taylor Momsen, and c’mon goof, this is reality!

I melted all over her anyway to get her photo, teehee.

It’s weird, I feel like right now, at this time of my life, often enough, fiction becomes reality.

Like here, the most incredible thing is happening.  I was elected by MenStyle as one of the 25 Women of Fashion of 2009! And on the list, there are some girls that I just love, but that I’ve never met and I would dream of doing so. Like Chloé Sevigny, or Erin Wasson, or like… Milla Jovovich and a whole bunch more, artists, ladies of style, designers…  Oh la la.

Tonight, party time.  They’re all going to be there, and we’re being photographed by Olivier Zahm (Pray that I won’t be there on all fours, doing a right of passage, pants down, full moon in sight) and welcomed by Kanye West.

Yep, fiction is trying to find me here in reality.  But seriously, I’m so excited ! I’m going to bring my camera, take a deep breath and… Okay, off we go, I’m sure it’ll be great!

Bonne journée!

dIy dAy !

It all started because of my Marant jogging pants which have now become an international catastrophe. From Paris to New York, seven hours on Air France’s seat 456A stuck between two babies slobbering all over me, I still haven’t taken them off, and all my friends are saying I look cooler than cool and so I’m really never going to take them off.  I’m blissful in my comfort and the cool attitude that comes with ‘em.  And what was my life goal?  Be cool, not a fool!

I Anouck

Anouck is a photographer living in New York. She’s beautiful, she’s funny, she’s out of her mind, she made me drink the most disgusting organic smoothie and I love, love, love her photos.

Here’s a pile of her polaroids.  She’s got tons of them.  They’re everywhere. The gentleman with the glasses, just in the middle there, that’s Werner Schreier, the ideal man back in the 90s. No big thing, but it’s autographed. Hey, you never know…

And here, these are the glasses she wears when she’s shooting as, and I’m quoting here, she can’t see a thing. Like many of the most talented photographers.

Her books. I tried stealing a few photos from her, but it didn’t work out: she was just about to give them to me. She also gave me some chocolate, some advice, and lots of inspiration.

If one day you meet her, make sure you don’t forget to party with the girl. Whatever you do, say no to her smoothies, and instead ask for a soy latte. But in the meantime, go to her blog, her site, and give her a warm hug for me if you happen to cross paths with her in Berlin where she just flew off to, following around and shooting Depeche Mode and M83

Bonne journée!

La Peau Douce

So here’s your summer cocktail : Something short, something loose, something relaxed.

Lots of skin, sensuality, and layering done just right.

I’ve always loved when people play with intimacy.  Under garments peeking through.  The little hint of a black bra under a white shirt.  The slightly oversized t-shirt that opens up in unexpected places.  The flashy strap coming out of a tank-top just to say hello, the little well-placed hole that lets you see a splash of lace, the g-string coming out over the top of low-rise jeans…

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!??!

…About the g-string.  I think we can all agree on that one, no?  I was just jokin’ with ya.  Bonne journée!

*Translator’s note : La Peau Douce (English title: The Soft Skin) was a 1964 film by François Truffaut.

Garance Doré

I began my blog in June, 2006. I was an illustrator and growing frustrated – with the type of work I was getting, yes, but mostly frustrated because I wasn’t really connecting with the readers of the magazines I was working for. I wanted to do something a little more free, more spontaneous. I had ...
