I was in a very similar situation last Friday, but in the opposite direction. I went to a dermatologist, who is also an expert in homeopathy (is this the right word? the BOIRON products). I have a condition that is something like rosacea but not severe. Still, it bothers me, and I have always splashed a lot on very, very expensive products, including Clinique :) My new dermatologist almost killed me ordering that I do not, by any circumstances, wear any, absolutely any cream on my skin. I was shocked, because unlike you (although I must say I have been trying the Dove regimen on myself, and it works just fine, so go ahead doing your thing), I wash my face with something super expensive, then put on a healing product for rosacea, then cream, then 50+ sun protection lotion, then powder, etc. etc., and I've always though that without even one of these things, my skin will perish from dirt and radiation out on the street or in front of the computer. So, for 3 days now I have not been using any cream whatsoever and have been washing with Dove, and Oh Surprise!, my skin is actually much, much better! So, at least for now, the cosmetic industry has lost a very loyal client in me :))) A great post, by the way. It made me laugh!!
