I really like the exaggerated silhouettes you get from furs, but what I’d like even more is to find a good faux fur.
Yesterday, I saw some in the Prada boutique – Prada made a few of their multicolored spring furs (here) in a very bubblegum-ish faux material (a little like the one in the photo, which is vintage) and I thought it was an interesting idea to offer that.

I love these hyper-colored furs, but I can’t help thinking YSL did it first in his 1971 Spring/Summer collection. I still get shivers (in a good way) when I see pics of that famous green fox fur coat!
Trouver une vraie belle fausse c’est dur ! Moi j’ai hérité du vison noir de ma grand-mère qui est magnifique et que je n’ai pas quitté pendant les vacances de Noël à New York tellement il tient bien chaud ! Mais j’ai trouvé la perle rare chez Century 21 NY : une veste en fausse fourrure léopard que j’adore et que je ne quitte plus.

I don’t know why but the idea of a faux fur that does everything to look even more faux and not as real as possible makes me smile… I like the idea! It’s like kitsch things: they are already kitsch, so the more the kitsch the better it is! If they try to look elegant they’re just horrible…
So big faux fur with flash colours, exaggerated shapes or hyper fake-looking materials? Love!

ahaaah, enfin!
depuis des semaines je fais des essais (oui enfin le week-end quand je ne me lève pas trop tard et qu’il fait beau) pour arriver à avoir cet effet que l’on voit tant sur ton blog et que j’aime beaucoup : l’arrière-plan complètement saturé, et j’ai du mal – notamment pour gérer les ombres.
je me suis demandée même si c’était pas mon appareil photo n’était pas le facteur limitant.
Et enfin, voilà cette photo, très belle certes, mais avec du bruit! ça me rassuuuure :)

I have two fur coats I inherited from my mother and while they are gorgeous and extremely warm, I’m reluctant to wear them as I’d prefer them to remain on the animal who originally wore them! So I applaud your approval of faux furs!
Knowing how you love hats, I thought of you when I read this quote from the great Mimi Weddell (who was still modeling at 95!)…”I can’t imagine going without a hat. The only Romantic thing left in life is a hat.”

Fur is SO elegant but when you know the true cost of REAL FUR I wonder how one can look in the mirror and still think it’s chic?
I lived in a Canadian province (Nova Scotia) where 88% of mink furs in North America are produced. The reason? Billions in profit and no regulations on this type of farming exist there. Lakes near where I lived are poisoned because the thousands of skinned mink carcasses are thrown into the water. A deadly algae then spreads from lakes to rivers to more lakes, making people and wildlife very ill. The government refuses to listen to the pleas – money talks.
It’s nice to wear mink when one is so far away from the corruption and poison isn’t it?

Cela peut être joli mais je ferais attention : on se retrouve vite à ressembler à un eskimo / magnum (la glace, quoi !) : un rectangle en haut avec un tout petit bâton en bas !
Il faut faire bien attention à la longueur (le mi-cuisse ne marche qsque rarement – court, cela peut être une idée – en 3/4 voire en 7/8, cela peut marcher aussi).
Il faut faire bien attention au pantalon ou à la robe qui couvre les jambes : trop serré, cela donne le fameuse effet “bâton de crème glacé” qui est, à mon très humble avis, un peu caricatural.
M’enfin, je dis ça, je ne dis rien ! Je peux me tromper.

When I first saw the title of this post, the first thought was, “What knockoff did Garance fall for this time?” :P
I’m not too into fur that much–more of a leather lass–but if I were, I’m not sure I’d want to wear bubblegum-coloured fur, or at least, not that much. Maybe more of a vest design with some biker boots, faux-leather skinny pants (mid-rise, though… no low-waist for me oh non), a cool striped shirt… total glam rocker yo!

Les modèles de Prada sont très beau mais j’ai une nette préférence pour les modèles vintage couleur fauve. Comme le modèle présentésur la photo, géniale…Après voilà la fausse fourrure c’est un statement, il faut vraiment ne pas avoir froid aux yeux pour assumer ce look dans la rue…
