preada-stiletto

Yeyyy ! I found my perfect pair of pumps !!! They are perfectly pointy, show the exact amount of toe cleavage and I love the very straight heel. I feel very Emmanuelle Alt just looking at them.

Ok so the only thing is… they’re pretty high. Like probably between a 10 and 12 cm heel. I went to Prada (that’s where they are from) and they also have an 8cm heel version. It’s very pretty as well but maybe less sexy and glam than the higher heel.

So what do you think ?

Should I go for the comfy heels or do you think that when you’re going for a pointy pump, you go all the way and choose a super high heel ?

8 cm seront bien assez. Let’s go for practical.

    splendides!

I would go with the comfy ones. 8cm? Still pretty beautiful, high and sexy…and you would not suffer as much in them…

I’d also pick the lower ones. I don’t think it’d be a comfort vs. looking good issue – it’d be a best of both worlds.

oh hell! Buy both! But honestly, for the price, they should be comfortable. I had a pair of Betsey Johnson’s that looked like they would be awful to wear, but were incredibly comfortable.

  • sara February, 29 2012, 9:26 / Reply

personally, i find that anything higher than 3.5 is semi unwearable. a black pump is supposed to follow you throughout life, your staple to throw on for the perfect sexiness or perfect comfortable chic. realistically, you’ll want a shoe you will wear and regret not getting the more wearable pair once you realize you never want to wear your perfect black pump :{ so go for the shorter ones! the high arch will still look sexy when you cram yo feet into a pair that are too tall to wear for more than a seated evening out.

  • yvonne February, 29 2012, 9:26 / Reply

go for the lower one! :) so you can always wear it

  • Nomadic D February, 29 2012, 9:27 / Reply

So pretty! I agree with everyone else here, go for the 8cms. Which, really, is still pretty high in my book, it’s not as if you’ll be wearing kitten heels or anything. Assume you ever have to walk anywhere or stand for more than 10 minutes at a time, the other ones just seem impossible.

    http://nomadic-d.blogspot.com/

  • Natasha Fatah February, 29 2012, 9:27 / Reply

Oh I love those and wait to see how you style them. For me there are two types of the perfect black pump. The beautiful pair you bought, I would reserve for events, and parties, where I don’t have to do a ton of walking or being on my feet. But since I walk everywhere in Toronto, to and from work, I need to be a bit kinder to my feet – so a lower heel, a rounder toe, like these Kenneth Cole’s that I wear all. the. time: http://natashafatah.blogspot.com/2012/01/dressing-for-tolerance.html

it doesn’t ruin the shoe’s architecture and makes a big difference in comfort!!!

    Pourquoi choisir?

Mon dieu c’est so boring

  • The Pilgrim February, 29 2012, 9:42 / Reply

    ps: Gorgeous shoes!

    Bonjour Garance,

8 cm ça me paraît déjà bien assez haut et beau…

  • Mariatru February, 29 2012, 10:11 / Reply

No, no, go for the 8cm heel. Otherwise what’s the point? You will come to hate those gorgeous pumps because they’ll be impossible to wear longer than it takes to to get out of the house.

  • Jennifer - Stylish clin d'oeil February, 29 2012, 10:15 / Reply

  • Juko February, 29 2012, 10:16 / Reply

I’d go for the 8 cm. Better 8 cm and wearing them than 10 or 12 cm and just looking at them … Have fun with them anyway.

  • Elodie February, 29 2012, 10:18 / Reply

Spend a morning watching women (trying) to walk around town in very high heels. It is rarely pretty. The 8cm heels are as high as you need for a sexy elongated leg. The 12cm look best in still photography.

dear garance – these are completely perfect – very sculptural -
i agree – however…i don’t think 2 cm will take away from their
beauty! also, am exploring a new concept – comfort and ease

I would go for 8 if you want to wear them often, higher if only used for special outings. In a perfect world would could get both :)

  • mes bijoux February, 29 2012, 10:50 / Reply

Because I like you very much and I only want good things for you, I choose the 8cm high (BTW are quite high!) Because when you get older (yes, you will) your back will be in good shape and you wouldn’t look like “the hunchback of Notre-Dame”m

They look great : classic and sexy. I’m not able to walk on heels that high, especially not when they are this thin. so I’d go for the 8 cm ones, they should look good aswell
What about getting the 8cm ones in black, to wear very often and these high ones in another color for more special occasions ?

the 12cm ones might be sexier, but if you’re not comfortable walking that much time with them, the walk might not be sexy at all!!! so 8cm is pretty sexy (and those prada ones most definetly are!) and it will be easier to rock them for a whole day… I would go for the 8cm!

What’s sexy about bunions, about plantar faciatias–about ruining your beautiful feet? What’s sexy about having to take your shoes off and stand around barefoot? Take your health into consideration and STILL be sexy…that’s the balanced way to do things. So with a shoe this gorgeous, assure yourself of comfort as well. And they ARE gorgeous!

I think it’s very simple… will you really use this ones?? They must be expensive, so you should think if you will really use them or if you will be so uncomfortable that in the end you will always choose others from your closet. The 8cm are probably less glamorous, but you will use them happily and comfortably and probably in more ocassions than the higher ones.

  • Julie February, 29 2012, 11:20 / Reply

I would go for the 8 cm version, because, as I noticed, they do not have a platform and I just cant walk on that high platformless heels. However, if you can manage it, then keep them, they are really cool!

  • Yasamin February, 29 2012, 11:21 / Reply

I always go for the comfiest shoes. High heels are definitely prettier & atract us. But, at the end of the day I prefer to look after my feet instead of wear the coolest shoes. Yes, I know pretty rational boring reasoning. But, I’m pretty my feet’s health will be a lot better in the future. And, there’re tons of pretty cool flats, beauty & comfort go well together.

  • Amaia February, 29 2012, 12:08 / Reply

I would choose 8cm..it’s still a very good and sexy heel height and prob much more comfortable. Personally, if I buy a pair of shoes and they are not comfortable I end up not wearing them..and they are Prada! you have to wear them! Plus, they are beautiful :)

  • imperio jp February, 29 2012, 12:09 / Reply

go for the 8cm – you’ll HAPPILY wear them forever. Looking sexy is less important than FEELING sexy, and the 2cm extra hurts your feet and you will be miserable at a party instead of staying and enjoying yourself – you will want to leave early because your feet hurt!

I love high heels – both 8 and 12 are high heels in my book.
So I would try them on and see: if the 8 cm look great (as I suspect) don’t hesitate!
Otherwise, make sure you’re comfortable enough with the 12: I find it so unglamourous not to be able to wear your own shoes.
You know, when every step is painful, when your back aches the day after, and – worse of all- when you walk like a fashion addict or an escort: self-conscious and ridiculously shakey!

That being said, those shoes made all the little neurons in my brain fire all at once! Can’t wait to hear which one’s you go for!

Well, if you are going to wear them primarily for work, then definitely the shorter ones.
If they are going to be primarily for a nice dinner or meeting up with friends, etc. go for the taller ones.

When I was fifteen and still was clueless how to navigate the fast approaching womanhood, when my mom was nagging me about my tomboy stylistic choices, I came across an interview with Sharon Stone in which she said: ” you cannot look sexy if you are not comfortable.” It became my motto and worked for me all these years. I started wearing skirts because I felt like it, not because someone told me I’ll look like a girl if I do. And I felt comfortable wearing them. And I heard compliments pouring my way. Ditch these gorgeous museum pieces for a 8cm pumps. You wouldn’t be asking us if you were even %51 sure :-)

); et me font vraiment pitié.

you can go to a shoemaker and have him take of 1-1,5 cm of the heel depending on the structure of the shoe. I’ve had it done with success a couple of times as my preference is 9,5 cm. its the difference between being able to run in your high heels or only being able to stand in them ;)

As a boy, I don’t actually wear heels – so take this with a grain of salt – but I say: go with the high ones! They are utterly perfect.

I always reason like this: Sure I’ll be comfy, but the glam heels will give me awesome calves after a few wears!

Based on what you said a while ago, maybe the 8cm
“My style found its footing again and went back to fundamentals: man’s closet and short skirts, among some others. I still have moments where I panic and suddenly try to become as sexy-cool as Emmanuelle Alt or as sexy-chic as Carine Roitfeld but moments like those usually don’t last a long time. “

No one looks sexy when not comfortable! What’s the point on trying to balance on 12cm? Can’t walk on them?? Don’t wear them. It’s simple.

  • Florence February, 29 2012, 5:53 / Reply

Mes genoux me disent merci…

Quand j’avais acheté les Pigalle Jazz, la vendeuse m’avais glissé un “Can you walk in these? I can’t even stand! They are the most uncomfortable shoes we have, they are “taxi-destination” shoes”…

  • andrea February, 29 2012, 7:43 / Reply

Get the 8s. They will still look amazing and you will have so much more comfort and therefore confidence which = sexy! No one was meant to walk around in the higher ones, really. They are for socialites and limo riders, not real women who do things. I have a closet full of higher heels that I never wear. I am now 58 years old, with a bunion on one foot and a bad back. But you will never know it because I will not give up my heels. I just look for ones no higher than 3 inches. And I also wear platforms, which are also more comfortable. I am always searching for the elusive perfect pump or sandal, and I can guarantee you that your perfect 12 cm pump will not feel perfect to you after you wear them the first time. And that will be SO disappointing. But hey, you can always use them in the bedroom!

Oh, and if your bank account can handle it, get both!

  • Diana February, 29 2012, 7:48 / Reply

Depends on what you can tolerate. I think I would want to cry on 10 inch heels all night long. Well, discomfort is not sexy! But if you can handle them go for the highest. If not , you would like much sexier with the 8 inch, when you can walk with confidence and not thinking about your feet the whole time :)

  • Crystal February, 29 2012, 8:30 / Reply

    Garance,

I’ve been thinking about this for years (among many more important things, I promise!) and I actually think the 8cm heel is sexier. There’s something about how it looks with skinny, ankle length pants especially that is just…hot. Much better than the overt. But…I know that dresses require the highest heel one can tolerate or flats. Middle ground is Michelle Obama, who looks absolutely gorgeous but neither you not I are her! Go for the 8cm, you know, to start with:)

In my past life (meaning last year), I would have chosen the super high heels. Now, I have to go more moderate, because the balls of my feet hurt when I wear my really high heels now. I don’t have enough padding on my body, which is a blessing and curse.

With that said, you should go with what you love. You obviously chose those for a reason. Don’t overthink it. Go with your gut.

These are fashion-victim high! Why bother struggling in them? And watch out, because that really straight profile makes them even more impossible to walk in. One recent evening I saw a young woman fall forward on her face TWICE because she could not walk properly in her very high heels. Twice. Very sexy.

The 8cm is still very chic, because the shoe is so well designed. If there is a shorter heel that still looks this good, always go the shorter. Your feet and back will thank you for it…XX

    8. there is nothing sexy about a girl trying to balance, without her knees bending!

and just as i thought you finally actually got THE PERFECT pair
I have to tell you I am very, very skeptical about those heels: I find the heel that starts from/aligns with the far end of the shoe ( and not in the middle of where the foot heel is supposed to be) very tiring and eventually damaging for the foot/leg/waist.

so, if you insist on having them, I would say, there is one more reason to go for the 8 cm one…

good luck! – i will still keep looking…!

So perfect! I am also on the search for the perfect pump, with that perfect point, and the most flattering framing of the foot!! You seem to have found them! :) Here’s my view on the heel. If you are going to be running around a lot in them, and wearing them all the time then go for the 8cm.. i don’t necessary think that lower is less sexy… in the photo of Emmanuelle before she was in a lower heeled pump, and still looked sexy… understated sexy! :) Would love to see you in either!

  • Elizabeth March, 1 2012, 6:38 / Reply

I have found that the criteria are 1. can I bend my foot as I walk? otherwise one loses not just comfort but elegance. 2. how are they balanced? even quite low shoes can be agonising if they tip one forward onto the ball of one’s feet & quite high shoes are comfortable if one’s weight is evenly distributed between heel & ball of foot.
Walk in each for as long as possible before you commit, people will stare but it matters more to get it right.
8cm is high enough to be glamorous but still more practical than they look; a tortured looking foot is ugly and painful. Let us know what you choose please

  • Sara March, 1 2012, 6:40 / Reply

Decide what you want to use them for (mainly).

If you want a glam pair for dinner Saturday night, the Opera, cocktail bars or any other special event… then go high.
If you want a (nearly as) glam pair for use every day, like lunch with the girls, Tuesday night dinner, a gallery opening where you’ll be doing a lot of standing and walking… then go lower.
The main thing is you must still be able to LOOK comfortable (even though you might not be) and walk naturally in the high ones, nothing is less sexy than not being able to walk with pride and ease in your heels.
Look at Emmanuelle Alt, I’ve never seen her in a stupidly high heel, yet she always looks so effortless, so chic, so cool… I think I just argued my way into going for the lower heel!

  • Ana & Marie March, 1 2012, 8:50 / Reply

    Voila.

But there is nothing better an slipping on a pair of super high heels for a night out. Sometimes it makes me feel like I have a secret (glamorous) life. I’m 5’10″ with size 40 feet and a smaller heel just doesn’t balance things out. A 8cm heel looks different on someone 5’6″ than 5’10″. My extra height needs MORE height (you get a better view of the party from up there – wink)! xo

    Garance go both.

I am a sucker for things that I love so if you love love love those shoes and if you can afford it buy both versions of them. ( I have done this!)

I love high heels but they got me waist problems so I made a “pact” with the doctor to wear them only once a week. So, my advice would be to wear the high ones and be glamorous in special occasions, but also have a back up plan with the less high (but still considerably tall and equally stylish) 8 cm heel pumps .

whichever is most comfortable, because comfort is sexy.

    very nice selection, nonetheless.

i’m on the hunt for the perfect black pump… any suggestions? i’m not on a prada budget… where would you send a girl who needs a well made black pump for an affordable price?

    Ciao bella

Perfect really!! Go for the 10/12 heels!!

  • Tra March, 2 2012, 9:00 / Reply

Some heels are made for walking in and others are for sitting in… Gloriously and glamourously made for sitting in… Get the tall ones!

  • kieljo March, 2 2012, 9:03 / Reply

Look at your photo of Emmanuelle! She looks very sexy and I think her black heels are a little lower. Go for the ones you’ll be able to wear more….

  • majo15 March, 2 2012, 10:42 / Reply

I say get both. If they are really beautifully crafted heels it would be good to have two pairs. One for when you want to be daring, sexy, and sleek and one thats a little shorter for when you want to tone it down.

Go with the high pumps, they are sexier! But then again, you don’t want to run in them during the fashion weeks :) Have it for the outings in the city or for the dates with Scott :) These pumps are beautiful!

    comfy = sexy

  • Miss Kwong March, 4 2012, 11:28 / Reply

I ‘d say gofor the 8cm…. for sure! you’ll walk in them more if they are ok to walk in,not just a decoration or an art piece. And comfy = sexy, i agree with the above comment by Paulina!
8cm is not low anyway, it’s still ok and with that perfectpoint and staright heels, you can still wow the crowd with them!

    GET BOTH!

Beautiful simple classics with an edgy twist are hard to come by ;)

  • Leanette March, 6 2012, 12:42 / Reply

Follow your French side!! Definitely the 8 inch because you can wear them with EVERYTHING and look fabulous and still be able to walk. What is the point of having beautiful shoes if you have to sit down and hide them under the table most of the time? I also think that in some cases the very pointy very high might be a “Pretty Woman” moment and NOT in a good way!!

  • Jess March, 6 2012, 10:41 / Reply

Oh, these pumps are indeed perfect and sexy! ;)

I have a lace up ankle boots with a similar heel – say with a straight heel, but a little less high, and boy… I can not walk in them, haha… So, yeah, so much to sexy straight heel pumps!

  • HH March, 7 2012, 12:50 / Reply

If you can’t wear them, you can’t love them. 8cm!

  • Dina March, 10 2012, 1:05 / Reply

in the beautiful photograph you too, are those the 8 cm or 12 cm?

if you can afford both, get them and alternate :)
personally i would go for the 8 cm…i think its enough haha!

gorgeous shoes and i agree they are the perfect pair…soft leather, toe cleavage, not too pointy, sexy slim heel…they remind me of my first pair of “couture” shoes – Comme des Garcons – which i think were 4 cm :p

    Merci

I also think they are PERFECT. – Depends on ones age and profession: If you are under 40 and you work in a fashion-affine business, go for the high ones. If you are over 40, you have to take the more convenient ones, unfortunately, in order to prevent illness of your older knees and feet… (I am 47.)
