It’s not the first time you’ve seen varsity jackets on the blog and now they are taking over fashion week.
We love how they make everything look sporty, preppy and super cool. And we especially love this photo Garance took in London of the Opening Ceremony team rocking them.

For myself I’m really not a fan. I find the cut and structure uncomfortable and have a real dislike of huge logos. I also have a bit of an old fashioned feeling that it’s something that has a valued meaning and should have been earned. If you were at one of the American universities and this is your varsity jacket, then wear it very casually or post sport.
The ladies from Opening Ceremony do look very cute in them though.

Le dilemne pour moi c’est que j’ai les cheveux courts. Je ne sais pas encore si je vais oser, ou alors avec des escarpins. Je vais voir !

it’s a bit of a strange one!! nostalgia is always a beautiful inspiration, and with the varsity jackets – their fit is so cool. it’s awesome when you’re at a party and a girl walks in with it, the “coolitude” sky rockets……….yet when everyone wears it? it becomes roadkill. too much going on.
I agree. Where’s the fun when everyone is wearing it? These girls look overly styled to me…

Wow, you got me thinking! I already wrote (in reply to Emma) that I feel that these girls look overly styled, and it’s a feeling I get more and more when I look at people in fashion. It seems like ‘this really doesn’t go together so it must be fashion’ has become the new rule. And rules are boring! I miss the spontaneity and real originality, but I find it hard to point at what that is. To me, it just feels like these girls are trying too hard… (but I realise that’s easy to say, sitting behind my computer wearing an old pair of jeans and – dare I admit it?? – Ugg boots because I’m cold, haha)
I agree with you E. Sometimes it does feel like if things clash it must be fashion. “I can’t blend garments, so it must be cute”; but it’s a kind of artificial, determined cute.
By the way, it’s cold here in Yorkshire and I was out filming in the rain all day yesterday. I’m sat beside my computer in old jeans, a much loved (okay, worn out) Norwegian sweater, climbing socks and sheepskin moccasins. You’re not alone in your Uggs.

I wear my Moms old (1984?) cheerleading varsity jacket in the fall and winter. It has her name and her letter stitched to it. I eventually want to add my varsity letter below hers and maybe another generation will be able to add theirs as well someday.
love this trend and i definitely can’t wait to try it out this fall. kim kardashian almost ruined it for me but the oc team is really saving it here! maybe it’s the whole high school nostalgia thing but it definitely adds instant cool to any outfit.

I hate them. I hated them in the eighties too. I don’t think they have a nice cut on men or women. I agree with the previous poster who said everything seems overly styled these days. It’s so true. Ask yourself before you jump on this trend if this jacket really highlights your best assets, would you really have picked it out a few years ago. Would you want to run into your ex boyfriend and his hot new girlfriend wearing it. You’d probably realize pretty quickly how dumpy varsity jackets can be.

I LOVE varsity jackets! I regret not getting a real one back in high school…but because this trend is so huge now I can wear my fakie varsity jacket and pretend I am on my high school bleachers once again, cheering for the home team to score another point! :)
I think the Scorpion jacket that Ryan Gosling wore in Drive has a lot to do with the trend!
