I’m a little bit of a nail polish junkie…okay maybe not a little…(between my roommate and I, we have over 100 different colors) but I never tried matte nails until this photo in November Elle got me lusting for a shine free look.
I’ve been using Essie’s Matte About You topcoat for the last few weeks and am totally hooked! What do you think of matte nails?

I am really into matte nails as well. Although I like Butter London’s Matte Finish Top Coat better than Essie’s
Agree. I like Butter London’s matte finish as well. The matte seems to last longer than Essie’s IMO.
I’ve never tried it, but I love the nails on that Elle picture!
Love them! I have the Rimmel matte topcoat and it works perfectly too. Also love combining matte and glossy like in the photo, though to be honest I don’t usually have the time for such an involved mani!

I am a chanel addict. I don’t recall any matte chanel nail colours. Although if I had to cheat on chanel I would do it half way. That is, I would follow the example of the photo above. It’s unique!
Le vernis mat c’est moins bling bling que le brillant; comme les sacs ou les escarpins en cuir mat sont moins ostentatoires que les brillants… je prefère

Très joli le vernis mat !! Ca semble beaucoup plus évident et plus subtil que le brillant au final (je dis au final car je ne connaissais pas) (je ne porte pas de vernis).

What i really love in this pic of ELLE Mag is the blend of the matt side and the glossy one! I am not a matt nail polish fan, in fact i am found of glossy because is more glamour and feminine and gives the hand a subtle elegance but this photo is so perfect and changed my mind hmmm i think the shade of pink used plays a key role!

J’ai acheté un vernis mat cet été, sans m’en rendre compte… A vrai dire je ne savais même pas que ça existait !!! Du coup l’effet m’a paru un peu bizarre au début, mais au final je trouve ça très joli, on voit mieux la couleur, et ça demande moins d’entretien que les vernis “normaux” : sans brillant, on voit moins si le vernis s’écaille ou s’il y a des rayures et plus besoin de top coat !
I also love matte nails, I am using OPI’s topcoat and tried the same look with black nailpolish, really great.
I’m not a huge fan of the look. Depending on the colour, sometimes I think it looks really flat, kind of like wall paint. However, I love that it dries super fast! Great for a quick manicure.
I haven’t tried yet, but I guess I should! Anyway, I’m a red, pink or coral kind of girl. Blues, greens, yellows and all that jazz… not for me!
Je ne suis pas une très grande fan du vernis mat… Je préfère quand ça brille , car quand c’est mat j’ai l’impression ensuite que c’est la couleur naturelle de l’ongle. Et puis ça fait moins glamour que le vernis qui brille !
Je n’aimqu’un conseil: n’oublie pas ton ridge filler parce je le matte ca pardonne pas :)
ALEX!! SO great to see you writing on the blog. To be honest, I didn’t even know matte nail polish existed until now. I went crazy for matte lipstick about a year and a half ago and I’m still wearing it despite the passing trend. So, this look is right up my alley!
I love them – I’ve been using Essie Matte About You as well and I love it. I particularly love the contrast between matte and shiny – that’s one I haven’t tried yet!

Le vernis mat me parait plus difficile à appliquer. La moindre imperfection se voit beaucoup plus vite non? N’étant pas une pro de l’appli vernis je préfère le shinny
I used to matte my nails back in high school! Maybelliene used to have a matte topcoat many years ago. I think the old bottle is still at my parent’s house. I love the look with shiny tips.

I use the Essie topcoat – but it wears off/gets shiny after a couple of days, so fresh coats are needed.
My favourite way to wear the matte look is over a sparkle-filled nail polish. When you have a nail totally covered in sparkles – but then covered in matte topcoat it plays tricks on your eyes (you know it should be shiny…but it’s not…hmmm) and creates a multi-dimensional look.

I always do my own nails and matte nails worry me. I’m scared that it’ll end up looking like it was “undone” or “unpolished” (forgive the pun). But I’m loving the matte & polished spin in the elle picture. Very modern twist on a traditional french tip.

j’utilise le chanel et il est top !!
J’aime bien le look du vernis mat mais celui que j’ai essayé dans la «vraie vie de tous les jours» avait la fâcheuse manie de se tacher facilement avec la moindre substance grasse effleurée (par exemple, la crème hydratante pour les mains)…
Je sais que cela parle de vernis mais le fard à paupière qu’elle porte où le trouver??? J’en cherche depuis des années..
