dating-column_2

And here is Megan’s first post – she will talk to us about love and here, she’s introducing herself to you… Have a great day! G

Hello new friends!

What’s that sarcastic saying? It’s a tough job, but someone has to do it? That’s how I feel, having been joyously tasked with relaying my adventures — and, let’s face it, misadventures — in dating and sex to you. It’s a scary world out there, with overgrown man-children, the wandering-eye commitment phobic (or is that me?) and friends all around us, once so willing to get an impromptu cocktail after work, now dropping off the face of the Earth when their left hands get weighed down with an engagement ring.

Through my stumbles on this bumpy road to love — oftentimes hilarious, sometimes ouch, my heart hurts — I hope you can laugh and cry along, whether through moments of “Hey, my ex was [insert awful adjective] too!” or “What the hell is this girl thinking?”

For instance, Topic #1: the aforementioned man-child. Gives me shivers just to mention it. I once lucked out into dating a nice, sweet, seemingly (and scarily) perfect guy, the type moms gush over and friends secretly crush on and you mildly resent for being a better person than you are. The same nice, sweet guy accidentally texted me around lunchtime one average day asking, “Hey Mom, could you make me a sandwich?”

Yikes. There was something pitiful about a man, one who wanted to take me on dates and bring me home for holidays, needing his mother to assemble meat on bread for him. Suddenly more of his man-child behaviors became apparent and I couldn’t take him seriously as someone who’d treat me like a lady instead of a girl. All my Darwinism instincts screamed, “Run!”

While I admittedly love dating (what’s not to like about dinner and one too many glasses of Sancerre and hearing a man’s stories for the first time?), I’m the first to concede that there’s much I don’t know. Or worse, knowing and still ending up cuddling up with Netflix at the end of the night. And that’s where I hope you’ll come in, wagging your finger at me when you disagree or nodding along when you can relate.

So read along with me, won’t you? We have a lot to discuss.

xo!
Megan

    Welcome Megan! Bienvenue !

Wooow, how frightening to talk about one’s personal love/sex life !!! And I mean it. You’re having now a Carrie Bradshaw dream job here ! Congrat’s , I’m jalouuus !
Beware : now you are undercovered but after the video/photo contributors’ presentation (that I’m longing foooooor!), you will be unmasked and your future dates might recognize you and fear that you “Taylor Swift” them (loving my own expression : I will copyright it right now ;-)). My tip should be then : wear a venetian mask ! Very 50 shades of grey / Eyes wide shut / Mystery => will spice up men’ imagination + your identity still sealed ! ;-)

Long life to this topic, I cant wait for being familiar with your writings, thoughts, and getting to konw you :-)

Hiiii, Megan! Please write about sex. I’m amazed that nowadays when you have internet, there are still so many men that have no idea what is pleasurable for a woman in bed! And we often don’t tell them!I’m appalled when I discuss sex with my girlfriends. Afterwards I want to cry for all women. The reality of their sex life is very depressing! So sad for us…When compared with how much is talked about what is that men like in bed… we, women are sooo at a disadvantage. My estimate is that there are like 20 percent of men that really get it what it is to be a good lover, and the rest simply don’t care . Obviously, I need to talk about it :). Anyway, it will be great to have you here with us!

  • Megan January, 23 2014, 10:38

Hi Katerina! Much to the shock of my mother, I will definitely be discussing sex – good sex, bad sex and forgettable sex. So glad to have you following along. :)

Oh God, the manchild. I hate them with a passion, and do my best to stay away. I’ve had some friends who were manchildren over the years, and was always constantly wondering whether they wanted a friend (or in some cases, a girlfriend), or just someone who could take care of them so they wouldn’t need to take care of themselves. It comes off as immature, and depending on other qualities, slightly insecure, none of which you want in someone you’re dating!

luckily he decided that he didn’t wanted to have this relationship anymore and instead start sth with his colleague. therefore it was acutually him who saved me!
having some distance i can say that that was the best that could have happend to me.

he talked to his mom on the phone almost every day and she stuck her nose in everything! she even talked to me, after the breakup (!) about the feeling of her son, and that it might have been all my mistake.

There is a good thing about the man asking his mum to make him a sandwich – and that is that it sounds like he has a good relationship with his mum and he loves her (and her sandwiches!). Gosh, even I ask my mum to knock me something up occasionally – though these days it’s generally me making food for her! It can be a good indication of how a man approaches his relationship with you if your man has a good, loving relationship with the women in his life – as long as it doesn’t go overboard!

Looking forward to hearing and discussing more!

looking forward reading about this ever green and hot topic. I hope you’ll be brave and bold. I am reading now Best Sex Writing 2013 which shows the complexity of the topic of love and sex. Recommending it to everyone. Also the Science of Love is a nice -if a bit too neuroscience and evolution biased- eyeopener. I wonder if you know about these books, and can relate to your experiences. In any case, welcome!

I’ll add these to my reading lists!

Ahhhhh… LOVE, sex, men… What a marvellous and infinite subject. I am really excited about this new section on your blog, Garance.
I discovered something crazy about myself and the relationship I had with my boyfriend by printing my text messages and seeing what were the most redundant words in our conversation. You would be more than surprised to see if it’s “sex”, “wainting”, “love” or “shut up”. Try it on line (for free) and tell me ! https://www.txto.io/fr
    xoxo

Not enough women or men are familiar with the concept of FLR: Female Led Relationship. It runs the gamut from hard core Mistress/slave to the Boss Lady/doting man. Many sub men are very masculine who simply want nothing more in life than to serve the Woman in their life. There are much info on the subject and a number of personal blogs written by both sub men and dominant women. Real men dote on women: they commit to ONE women, worship her, serve her. They do not sleep with your best friend, their eye does not wander, many wish to enter a FLM (Female Led Marriage).

Ladies, stop chasing after bad boys, losers, cheaters, abusers, commitment phobic douche bags. Be with a man who truly adores you and wants nothing more in life than to serve you sexually and emotionally in a committed life long relationship.

Forget about being Carrie chasing after Big, waiting for the Prince on the white horse.

Walk and live with confidence, love your own mind and your body, love sex, love your doting man and you will be happy.

Here is one of the best and most well-respected blogs on FLRs:
