This weekend, I was in Istanbul with Scott for the Elle Style Awards ceremony. Some day, if you play nice, I’ll tell you about the fiasco when I went to get my award for Fashion Blogger of the Year, yeah! But for the moment, I’m still recovering from the PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). In the meantime, we’ll just talk about all the great stuff that happened.

Yep, I was back in Istanbul and yep, still love it. And plus I got an award, and that’s just plain classy. After, we partied and I met tons of super cool people, and one of them was Ceylan.

I love her style. Ceylan is a fashion editor and she has a blog as well, which seems great even though I can’t understand any of it.

And Ceylan has short hair and it works diabolically well on her… Do you see where I am going with this?

PS : Look at her blog, I’m seeing that it wasn’t long ago that she had long hair. So I’m thinking that deserves a short-hair interview, just to ask her what effect it’s all had. What do you think?

They’re not that far from Skoura, the village of the High Atlas where we’re staying, but it took us time to find them.

We drove off road in the stony desert, wondering if the stones would pop our tires, we pretented we weren’t afraid of their dogs who were barking at us, and then finally we saw a woman and a boy coming towards us, followed by their goats.
They are troglodyte nomads. They don’t live in tents, but inside caves that are located along each of their stops.

They were smiling, and after a few moments of bashfulness, they seemed really happy to see us.

The great thing about going a little bit outside of the touristy places is that the inhabitants are as curious of you as you are curious of them.

Here in Skoura a lot of people speak French, and you can stop and talk for hours with them. A man I was talking to offered me a kilo of fresh dates, without wanting me to pay. Women are harvesting olives right now and they loved to tell us their stories and show us how they work. The children were afraid of having their photo taken, but spoke French very well and loved to interact with us… I’ll show you more pictures tomorrow.

It was not the case with this young lady : we were not speaking a word of the same laguage and I couldn’t even ask her her name… We just spent a moment there, staring at eachother, and smiling.

Maybe that’s why it was one of the most powerful moments we had experienced since our arrival.

Our world suddenly felt so far away.

A quick run down of some events of my week…

Gemma Arterton at the Miu Miu show. Even if I don’t know what she does… Here wait, I’ll google it. Ah, ok  She’s an actress… I find her really mysterious, and so totally classy, so yeah, beautiful.

The I always get duped of the week.

I always get duped by magazines with multiple different covers. Why oh why is everyone so into making multiple covers anyway?

So if you’re like me, you’ll buy the same Elle US three times, and the same iD and Lula twice. Aha, well, maybe it’s good for their sales.

The Are you serious? moment of the week

On a mission for a day lotion for my extra dry skin, I ducked into Sephora on 5th Ave. I took a quick look at the Clinique and Caudalie lines that I like so much and suddenly, a shopgirl with more makeup on than I’ve ever seen before appeared right in front of me. (“I really like your Halloween makeup! Oh… It’s not for Halloween?”)(Naaaah, I thought it but didn’t say it.) who really wanted to give me advice and wouldn’t leave me alone.

Of course, she tries to direct me toward a little jar of lotion for $185 recommended by a supposedly super well known doctor that I’d never heard of and she pretty much told me that if I didn’t buy it, it would be a crime against my skin.

I told her about he simple things that my dermatologist recommended* with her hydrating cream for $25, and the shopgirl said, “Oh, you should know this… Dermatologists don’t have a clue!”

Hmmm.

This didn’t stop me from…

Buying some eye-liner with a brush and everything. You can blame it on the new show Pan Am : now I really want to be as pretty as a stewardess.

I know, I know. I’ll never NEVER be able to put it on myself.

At the very worst, if it doesn’t work out, I’ll use it for Halloween. I’ll go ask the shopgirl at Sephora for advice.

Sentence of the week. 

At Daphné’s, in a little pair of panties so she could show me her latest designs, beautiful high-panties with a seam between the cheeks:

“You see how cool these are? They’re so pretty, they compartmentalize your butt!!!”

PS: Scott still can’t believe the conversations I have with my friends. He tries to imagine having similar conversations with his guy-friends and it really just doesn’t work.

Ingredient of the week. 

Have you had Kale show up yet at your house? I looked it up on the internet and apparently in France, it’s called chou frisé (frizzy cabbage) which just seems less exotic. Here in the States, it’s more trendy than cupcakes, and oh man it’s so good if it’s prepared well. If you’d like, I can give you my recipe for a Kale salad and that way you’ll love me forever and ever.

But what do you do if you have pretty much the same shape, except for the standing part (if you look at the picture from far away and squint a little, you can pretend that the legs are straight… yeah…)???

Purchase of the week.

A pair of Minnetonkas. Five years after everyone else. They’re furry inside and when I wear them, my feet are like the hazelnut in the Ferrero Roche d’Or : just floating in a cloud. I’m still trying to figure out what this new sensation is, but I get the sense they’re not going to be off my feet anytime soon.

I know, I shouldn’t have made fun of Uggs.

A stewardess with Minnetonkas? Aaaaah, aviation… It really isn’t what it once was.

*I’m sorry for this little diversion from my dermatologists no water miracles, but since I finished the last of my product and you can’t find it in the US… So as soon as this all works itself out, I’ll give you a total recap about the whole thing.

A big hello from my bed where I’ve spent most of my Sunday buried underneath some less-than-great books, sleeping, daydreaming, and semi-distractly reading these paperbacks, until this very moment when finally, I’ve started writing to you, and I’m writing because I realized something crucial.

It’s 5:30 and I’ve got some hot tea in hand. It’s cold outside and it’s quickly becoming dark out. 

Yeah. You heard me.

It was bound to happen at some point.

It’s AUTUMN!!!!

And since it’s autumn, that means…

It’s cool to spend your weekend lounging in bed reading books with absolutely no literary relevance. 

(You should know, I have a strong weak spot for chick-lit. And since I’ve never found anything that’s really any good, except for Candance Bushnell who really doesn’t write chick-lit nor does she write nearly enough – Candaaaaaaace, could you get moving paaahleeeease?! – I leaf through some pretty darn so-so books…. But with so much joy.)

It’s cool to take a walk through Central Park to go see the leaves turn and get shoveled up – Okay, so maybe I haven’t made it yet because I’ve been spread out on my bed but next weekend, for sure.

It’s cool not to have to get waxed like every day. 

It’s cool to drink four liters of tea a day. And have no shame in tossing in a cupcake on top of that, even if you have had a total lifestyle change. 2 CUPCAKES*? Naaaaahhh, that’s a little much, wait… I’ll call Gwyneth.

It’s cool to check out and watch 48767454363 tv series.

Ok ok, since you insist, here are my new favorites….

The New Girl with Zooey Deschanel, a girl that I didn’t really understand with her it-girl-singer-actress-fringe-girl-dressed-all-in-vintage-with-big-blue-expressive-eyes** thing. But as I’m the type to totally identify an actress with the role she is playing, and her part in The New Girl is extra funny, now I want to meet her!*** ****

Pan Am : I’ve only seen one episode but I’m already dreaming of the next. I saw the next one yesterday, and it was not that good…

Play Boy Club : I don’t believe it!!! It was just so good and get this, they cancelled the show after three epsidoes!!! Dumbasses.

And I’m waiting with breath held for 2 Broke Girls, that I can’t find on iTunes. Found it yesterday evening, was really disappointing.

And just as an FYI and because just like with literature, with TV shows, I’m not the best to get an opinion from – here’s my favorites of all times – in no particular order :

The Sopranos, Sex and the City, Battlestar Galactica, How I Met your Mother, Modern Family, Rome, Damages… Ahhh, I’m forgetting something, I just know it!!!

It’s cool to put on a panther print scarf.

Okay, don’t listen to me. Well I mean it’s fine to wear a leopard scarf, but I threw it there just to make some connection between this whole post and the photo. Without that there was none. I do find Elettra incredibly beautiful and oh so cool with her restaurant project durring fashion week that I’ll talk to you about again just so she’ll do it again next fashion week******.

OOOOOOkay, some truth, the truthy truthy truth I know that you’re about to never read this blog again but I have to tell you that IT’S NICE NOT TO THINK ABOUT FASHION AT ALL. I sure do love it, but after fashion week, I love spending three weeks in NIO (Non-Identifiable Outfits), to Scott’s despair. Sweatpants, scarf, sneakers, sunglasses to disguise my no make-up, and Starbucks in hand. Total LA style. Nooooo, no Uggs. Don’t go too far now. I got the vaccine.

Uhhhhh, yeah… I guess that’s it.

So all’s well that ends well over here. That said, I’m sure in no time at all, it’ll be way too cold and we’ll all miss the sun and everyone will wonder why we ever said anything nice about autumn.

On that, I’ll let you go. It’s nine in the morning (yeah, I write my posts in little gos with big time lapses in between) and I have to gulp down my first liter of tea.

Here is Gaia Repossi in one of the rooms in the Standard in New York (oh my, oh my! Just look at that view of the Hudson!!!) where she recently presented her new jewelry line.

I already told you just how much I admire Gaia. I just think it’s so awesome that she offers a whole new take on haute jewelry which is a little too confined to its overly classical box (and even Kate Middleton couldn’t disagree, ha!).
