New York City Girl

I’m in New York!

I’m tired and jet-lagged from the trip and I haven’t had time yet to get my camera out, so I thought I’d take advantage of the situation and show you a photo that Scott took of me* for his project with Burberry** right after I bought MY YANKEES HAT.

Front Row ! Flash ! Blop ! Wiiiz !

Oh man, these fashion weeks are going by in a blink. I’m already in Milan! But I gotta keep you up to date on the last developments in London. A little synopsis of everything lived, done, and heard between the start of the Burberry show and just before leaving the after-party, completely drunk at…

9 p.m.

You don’t change out a winning team. Yeah fine, have your fun Alexa.

-A funny thing happened to me: my seat at the show was right behind Anna Wintour. So besides being able to sift through every pore of her most serene skin, I could gaze at, right there infront of me, Alexa C., Frida P., Mary Kate O., Liv T., Emma W., Gwyneth P., and Posh S.

-What does everyone do before a megastarred show? You tweet. Okay, except for me, my Blackberry is way too small. So just to blend in, I tweet orally.

-Overheard –> Gwyneth Paltrow to Anna Wintour [Just an FYI, It was Gwyneth who got up to go say hello to Anna. Ha, everything in its right place.], “Anna, I’m so happy to see you. Your last movie was so amaaaaazing!!”

- And no, I didn’t have my camera. I had to make a choice : thigh high boots or camera. So thigh highs it was. To make up for it, I thought I’d give you photos of my three favorite socialites. With always a special love shout-out to my dear Alexa, who’s always a ray of sunlight, really, the coolest girl on earth. And Dree Hemingway, just… wow.

- Wow… In her Zara shirt. And of course, as you wouldn’t expect less from me, I made may way over to the nearest Zara to try it on. No idea why, but it didn’t fall on me the same way.

- Anna W., according to Gwyneth P., will soon be Oscared up!

- The thing about my Stella McCartney tight high boots (yep)(no but seriously girl)(ok, I’ll tell you about ‘em), is that they come up so high that everyone picks up my skirt to see just how high they go. Next time, I’m wearing smiley panties.

Cosi fan Tutte

This Monday morning, you’re finding yourself a completely blissed-out Garance.  Wouhou!  Vive Milan!  Vive la mode!!! Ciao bella!  E pericoloso sporgersi!!  Dove la sfilata?!

Ouais.  So I’ve been a little mainstream.  I treated myself to the Burberry, Bottega Veneta, Marni, and Prada shows.  Jil Sander?  I dunno.  I’m totally into everything.  Nothing is boring me.  I promise you that in the seasons to come, I’ll try to take a closer look into London’s up and coming designers.  But for now, I must confess that here in Milan, the fashion is really doing it for me.  It’s inspiring.  It touches.

And just with the general public, I get the sense that people are just now starting to party again.  It’s like the energy is on its way back.  I’m always wanting to photograph a whole bunch of people, be in two places at once.  My Italian is terrible.  I’m having a great time.  I’m going a little headless chicken, running in every direction.  I’m taking taxis that are entirely too expensive and I’m breaking my face open in my heels that are entirely too high.

It’s nice out.  It’s hot out.  Then it rains.  It drizzles.  Who gives a shit?  The energy is there.

I’ve got a whole bunch of colory stuff to show you, but I wanted to start with THE trend of the season of the fashion crowd, the monochrome, the ever-present black, a deep dark sense of color, because everyone is wearing it.  In general, for photos, that doesn’t quite inspire me.  Unless its as well done as this…

Quick aside.  These heels are absolutely sublime.  They deserve an ellipse in it of themselves.

Voilà voilà mes chéris, nothing more.  Except I’m having a premonition of things to come, of the days steadily getting longer and for Paris who is fast approaching.  That style, true style, the kind that you want to find again during the fashion weeks, the kind that is just too much, too much luxury, too high-end, too trendy, too black, and entirely too cool, is on its way back.  And it kinda snuck up on me… But I’ve been missing it a little.  Haven’t you?

Bonne journée!

Like an open book

Scarves, Burberry & Crumpet.

It’s funny how we find it hard to talk about things that are dear to us. I tried to write this post several times, halting each time I’m overwhelmed with emotion and redoing my piece a little later.

I had written this line to you months ago and it still holds true to this day. I was talking about a project that had been offered to me, that of writing and illustrating a book which got me all excited and stressed to death.

Since then, I often get mails asking when the book would come out. I smile in response. And tell myself that when the time comes, I’ll talk about it once and for all.

Oh! You pretty things

I began my blog in June, 2006. I was an illustrator and growing frustrated – with the type of work I was getting, yes, but mostly frustrated because I wasn’t really connecting with the readers of the magazines I was working for. I wanted to do something a little more free, more spontaneous. I had ...
