Caroline’s career is really interesting and I’ve wanted to talk to you about her for a long time now. Not only because she’s as funny as she is brilliant, but also because her career path was anything but linear.

By the end of the interview, she’ll tell us how she went from finance to the front rows of the runway shows, what it means to be streetstyle blog darling and what an adventure it was to take on Tank, an independent art and fashion magazine based in London.

All that, plus this look that I just adore (a hoodie plus those dangly earings, so cooooool!), it’s getting a little out of hand today on this here blog. Ooookay! Come take a walk with Caroline!!! Big hugs!

What’s your official title at Tank?

It’s the holidays !!!  And for the holidays, I’ve put together a little selection of photos I’ve never publishedYou’ll get to see some pretty cool stuff I found. It’s never too late for a good photo!!!

This has to be one of the first photos I took of Caroline, which happened to be at the time when the wonderful Richard Serra sculpture was still in the Tuileries Gardens, what a joy — and I remember what I asked myself: how can a face express such tranquility? It wasn’t just Caroline’s beauty but her serenity, her outfits that are always perfect but never over the top, the side of her  that says ‘I’m here but I could also be elsewhere living incredible adventures at the other end of the world…

Incredible adventures, like eating french fries with me !! READ MORE

Happy Thanksgiving !

I used to know nothing of Thanksgiving, but after living in New York, I have learned to love this holiday.

No wonder this is one of America’s favorite holidays. It isn’t really a commercial holiday (if we don’t count the pounds of turkey sold during this looooong weekend), it’s just an opportunity to pause, to sit around the table and enjoy a good meal with people we care about (usually family) and take turns expressing what we’re thankful for.

It’s very beautiful.

Well, it is also known to be the holiday where you’re supposed to eat like crazy, so I thought a small photo of the sublime Caroline feasting on fries before my very eyes (I dropped my tea to take this picture, here !) would be the perfect anti-guilt treat.

With that, I give you huge hugs. And thank you for being with me every day. I cannot say it enough.

Charlie’s Angels

Do you remember my friend Anna (here with Caroline and Chloe) I told you about her as she was just about to launch her brand, Prism. Since then I’ve seen her glasses everywhere, from Opening Ceremony and Colette to the Dover Street Market… And on all my friends faces ! Success !!!

I love them. With their vintage feel, they make me think of an episode of Charlie’s Angels. Oh how I loved these women when I was a little girl. Of course I always imagined myself being the cool-tomboy one. What was her name again ?

What is elegance?

Clothes are such a small part of what makes a person beautiful, don’t you agree?

Here’s my incomplete and disorganized list of details that, to me, contributes to creating impalpable elegance.

Caroline

Fashion is nice but sometimes we just want to be elegant and beautiful.

This is how it usually goes with Caroline, director of über-hip magazine Tank. And what I love so much about her is the timeless beauty of her style.

Meaning, she makes me forget about wedgy heels that make up for the lack of height or the shortest skirts and the slimmest treggings* one could ever find.

And yet, it doesn’t mean that I don’t get caught up in the popular, of-the-moment trends. In a span of two years, I’ve seen fashion go from baby doll dresses reintroduced by Phoebe Philo for Chloé to Balmain’s seemingly tacky but happily embraced distressed denim or bold animal print jeans. Yes, I tend to follow the latest craze. Fads can be fun but sometimes I wonder…

For me, Caroline is a perfect example of a gal who doesn’t get carried away by crazy fashion ideas. Just take a look at these three photos and you become aware of how she understands everything and knows exactly what works for her.

Yet, it only takes, a pretty (oops, make that eye-catchingly gorgeous) belt or a fab pair of shoes to prove her point. Everything else gets a classic treatment—hemlines hitting a consistent flattering length, the simplest color schemes  and pared-down accessories.

While others may get bored with this look, it’s the kind I find very inspiring and would definitely go for.

Bonne journée!

Garance Doré

I began my blog in June, 2006. I was an illustrator and growing frustrated – with the type of work I was getting, yes, but mostly frustrated because I wasn’t really connecting with the readers of the magazines I was working for. I wanted to do something a little more free, more spontaneous. I had ...
