Fashion Week Diary

The most important thing in life is learning to adapt. For a long time, I’ve managed to spend my nights during fashion week writing, but now, I’m going to have so many things to do in the next 10 days that the best I can do is write directly onto my phone between runway shows in order to take you with me on my days.

So this is… A super experimental post, something like Twitter, just not in real time!

Prêt à Porter

I gave a good try to life without a bag. …And I’m still having nightmares.  And yet, if there were a serial killer around who was out targeting silhouettes, it would definitely be the bag.

And it’s after mine first.  And my bag, it’s giant.  And it irritates the heck out of me! But I love it!  But it irritates the heck out of me!  But I love it!  But it irritates the heck out of me!  But I lov……

This means that often when I am out taking photos, I ask the girls to leave their bags out of the shot.

Except from time to time, a miracle occurs and I find that the bag, instead of weighing down the silhouette, accompanies it graciously and gives that last little touch that brings the outfit together.

And I don’t know if there are a whole bunch of girls who are just as irritated as me to have to bring along giant bags that they love so very much, but I’m seeing more and more just little pocket things, over the shoulder dealies, light like springtime.

And then there are the working girls, like my friend Carole, in the middle of buying for Département Féminin.  And really, I find this just too cool to use this to carry documents, just a little leather thing.  Actually… reminds me of someone.

Ouais, but look, seriously, it’s all so elegant.

Wow.  Okay… I am definitely a lot less irritated now.  Okay, c’mon giant bag, we’re out!

Bonne journée!

White Heat

Jacket, Dries Van Noten

I remember September in New York. It was fashion week and sashaying before me were all nude shades, cream colors, warm whites…

It was ho-hum boring. I wanted color!

This weekend, I had the same initial reaction at Département Féminin. And though I was shopping for colored shirts, gold shoes, greens, blues…

Dress, Balenciaga

… Everything that made me fall for Carole’s superb selection of clothes revolved around white. So impressive it was that I let myself get caught up in the soothing sensuality of its colors…and wanted nothing else to photograph.

My last two days were anything but what you see in the last photo. I was confined to my bed with I don’t even know how much of a fever, calling my mom, my man, my dad, my man, my super, anyone and everyone. Not for a second was I as glamourous as Chloé.

Kisses to you all. I’m quite happy to be back on my feet again.  Nothing like a good ol’ feverous delirium to remind you how good it is to feel alive again.

And to my lovely comforter, I thank you for your time, but i must now attend to the outside world.  Bonne journée!

Garance Doré

I began my blog in June, 2006. I was an illustrator and growing frustrated – with the type of work I was getting, yes, but mostly frustrated because I wasn’t really connecting with the readers of the magazines I was working for. I wanted to do something a little more free, more spontaneous. I had ...
