Garance Doré

TAG : hermes

Almost a year ago, in December, I was walking down Saint-Germain-Des-Prés with Sophie when we stumbled upon this tiny little shop on the rue Guisarde, stuffed from floor to ceiling with vintage treasures all initialed Hermès or Chanel.

“Come on, I gotta show you this Hermès wallet that I just love,” Sophie says to me.
“Naaahhhh, this shop’s a little too snobby. Not my thing. No seriously, no. Ok. Fine fine. Show me your little wallet and we’ll be off. Two minutes.”

Once I got inside, I couldn’t stop looking at the Kelly bags on the top shelves… It took me a while to get into the Kelly. It’s a bag fit only for a real dame. But for a little bit now, I’ve been looking at it in a different way. I’m starting to appreciate its strict and austere form, so extremely chic. And somewhere in me knew that someday, someday when I grow up or something, I’d buy one.

A vintage Kelly, already soften by another woman before me.

Hi ! I am the Micro-Kelly…

… No, I don’t believe we’ve met. And you’ve certainly never met a Kelly like me. I’m really special! I was custom made and given to my owner… Who wanted to remain anonymous.

PS1 : Yours truly, Garance — still not fully recovered from fashion week and now spends her time making bags talk.

PS2 : Yeah, but not just any bag.

PS3 : Oh no… What am I talking about? Ooookay, off we go! Big hugs!

Today, I love the colors and details of Ulla’s outfit so much so that I thought it’d be fun

to fool around a little with my blog’s template and post a really big image.

Between you and me, I don’t think I’ll do it too often, but that depends on you as well.  You like this format? Does it bother you to have to scroll do see the entire image? And then you can see all the little details? You like it?

In other news, the restaurant Lucky Strike you see in the photo is pretty great as well. It’s in Soho on Grand St. Biiiiigggg huggggsssss!

Faux et Usage de Faux

Last Saturday, in the middle of doing some interior decoration shopping, I left a boutique in total shock by the price of the most sublime vintage chair that I’ll be dreaming about for a long time coming. Look out! $8,000.

I walked across Broadway to console myself with a latte when suddenly, just to my right, I see a little shop with, you’d never guess, my chair in the window. Ahhhh torture! I get a little closer, take a look, and see the price. $200. On sale for $160.

??? What the… ?

Lolita

There are all sorts of Parisians.
But when I saw Lolita, I couldn’t help but think, waaaait a minute here. A Parisian wearing pink!!! Weird! How interesting is that! Oookay, stop!!! Let’s take a look at this.

After a quick photo stop and a little investigation, it appears that Lolita is a Parisian just come back from a few years in London. Ah! What an exquisite mélange.

Like my friend Sophie said while we spent our Saturday afternoon together, Lolita has it all right:

- The Repetto ballet shoes BUT with a little heel.
- Well tailored pants BUT just a touch too short.
- And the super chic Kelly BUT  worn on the shoulder with an army strap.

So yeah, I’ll let you continue the list. And then of course, OF COURSE, Sophie and I went to go check out the vintage Kellys at Trois Marches (remind me to do a post about this shop, please please please do!) and JUST ADMIRE THEM, if you know what mean…

And then I made sure to check with my mother that she didn’t have a Kelly hiding somewhere in some long lost closet. Question verified (“For the 15th time, my love, NO!!!”) I decided to add the bag right to the top of my wish-list.

Voilà, it’s done! What a relief! Big hugs!

Real Leather

In terms of city bags, there are a many schools of thought.
From the most comfortable to the almost impossible to wear :

1/

The backpack : It’s so ugly it’s beautiful, you wouldn’t understand.
The Epitome : That padded Chanel bag with two giant gold Cs, on loan from the 80s, they don’t make it anymore, which makes it even more trendy. (Personal note = Violaine, whenever you can send me that list of words that you are forbidden in your magazine, that’d be great. I think I’m gonna need it. And if you have any suggestions as to how to replace them, I’ll need those too.)

Ok, so in short… Practical, yes, but too trendy for me.

Garance Doré

I began my blog in June, 2006. I was an illustrator and growing frustrated – with the type of work I was getting, yes, but mostly frustrated because I wasn’t really connecting with the readers of the magazines I was working for. I wanted to do something a little more free, more spontaneous. I had ...
